Dealerships and Finance companies are now using non-working decoys in an attempt to distract from the real working gps device and some are even installing multiple working devices in different locations within the vehicle. We always find them!

What's the difference between a dealership that DOESN'T tell its customers they will be installing a GPS tracking device into their car -vs- a dealership that DOES tell the customer they will be? Easy! A dealer that DOESN'T tell you will knowingly be violating your constitutional right to privacy. A dealer that DOES tell you will make you sign an agreement asking you to give up your constitutional right to privacy. Which would you prefer?

Most dealerships and finance companies are currently installing GPS tracking devices into vehicles without disclosing it to the purchaser. The reason for this is the dealership or lender can quickly and efficiently repossess the vehicle if the monthly payment is not made on time, sometimes even if the payment is a day late. While this practice is currently legal, you as the registered owner have the legal right to have it removed without any recourse from the dealer.

If you suspect your vehicle has a tracking device in it....

  • we recommend not discussing this with the dealer as it normally will put you on their "watch" list.

  • Do not attempt to remove the device yourself.

  • Contact us to discuss your options.

we remove Dealership and finance company installed tracking devices

For those dealerships and finance companies that are disclosing this information, they are often failing to inform the buyer that the GPS tracking device will always be tracking the whereabouts of the vehicle, including you the driver, on a daily basis. Buyers are also forced to sign an addendum to the contract stating the device has been installed and that removal will result in the possible repossession of the vehicle. Many buyers are not receiving copies of this addendum once signed due to the fact that there may be liability issues down the road for the dealership or finance company and if the buyer doesn't have proof, well then no one does. While this practice may seem unethical and while we have not heard any of our customers having reprocussions from removing a device after they signed an agreement, we do advise you that there may be risks associated with the removal.

Federal law currently prohibits stalking, however, people have found ways to get around these laws and legally place GPS devices on private individuals’ cars to track their movements, without their knowledge.  Under federal law, it is not illegal for private individuals to covertly install a GPS tracking device on another individuals’ vehicle without their knowledge. The way the law currently stands, domestic violence victims, ex-spouses and other vulnerable populations are at risk to dangerous and invasive stalking or tracking. Laws regarding the use of GPS tracking devices vary from state to state, and where they do exist, typically only address cases of domestic violence. GPS devices are inexpensive and can be purchased on such websites as eBay and Amazon. These type of devices can be located anywhere inside and outside the vehicle and while they may be inconspicuous to you, they are easily found and removed by us.
